India host Australia in the second One Day International at Nagpur. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7pm (AEDT).
After taking a series lead in the first ODI on the back of superb innings from M.S Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav, India will be confident going into the second match.
Their six-wicket victory was a controlled and effective performance with the ball and the run chase never looked in doubt, with the 37-year-old in command at the crease and ably supported by Jadhav.
After something of a disappointing T20 series, the Indians looked comfortable in home conditions and playing a format of the game at which they excel. Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja were excellent with the ball and set up the victory by restricting the Australians to a mediocre score of 236.
Australian captain Aaron Finch is well and truly under the pump after another failure in white ball cricket, as the age-old problem of solid starts without a subsequent big score in the batting line-up plagued the Aussies in Hyderabad.
There is little between these two teams in the shortened versions of the game and look for a tweak or two to the Australian team in an attempt to level the ledger and keep their hopes of winning the five-game series alive.
It will be interesting to see what changes Justin Langer does make to the line-up, yet runs on the board will once again be the challenge for the Aussies.
The Australian bowling attack continues to do a good job against a threatening Indian batting lineup, however defeating the Indians at home takes runs (and plenty of them) by batsman prepared to bat deep into the innings and impose themselves on the opposition attack.
Prediction
In another tight match, I expect to see the Indians prevail on the back of the strength of the batting line-up. For me, there isn’t enough firepower in the top four of the Australian batting, with Marcus Stoinis carrying a heavy burden into every match.
If he and Glenn Maxwell fail to fire, I’m not sure from where the runs will come.
Catch all the action on The Roar, with live coverage from 7pm (AEDT).
