Rain, rain, go away, come again sometime at the end of July.
The British summertime threatens to spoil this battle between India and New Zealand – the only two unbeaten teams of the Cricket World Cup so far.
Heavy rain has drenched the UK this week but the poor weather is expected to subside by Thursday lunchtime. The teams are prepared for the possibility of a curtailed game.
A seven-wicket victory against Afghanistan on Saturday gave New Zealand their third win from three games.
Black Caps trio Lockie Ferguson (eight wickets at 12.4), Matt Henry (seven at 18.0) and James Neesham (six at 12.7) are among the top 10 wicket takers in the tournament so far.
India comfortably dispatched Australia on Sunday to make it two wins from two, with Shikhar Dhawan knocking up a brilliant 117 from 109 balls.
India will start as favourites despite losing a warm-up match to the Black Caps last month.
However, India captain Virat Kohli will be without his impressive opener Dhawan, who is likely to sit out at least the next three games with a hand injury. KL Rahul is set to step in, as Rohit Sharma’s opening partner.
Prediction
The loss of Dhawan is a major blow to India. In the damp conditions the Kiwi world No. 2-ranked ODI bowler Trent Boult could have a field day. I’m tipping a New Zealand win but by a fine margin.
