The climax to Group 1 begins when Ireland take on New Zealand in T20 World Cup action at Adelaide Oval. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 3pm (AEDT).

Whilst the Irish have slipped from contention for the semi-finals, after an excellent tournament where they beat England and impressed many, New Zealand has everything to play for. A win is certain to lock them into the final four and keep their hopes of raising the silverware alive.

Their disappointing 20-run loss to England on Tuesday now sees the top three teams in the group all on five points heading into the final matches, but New Zealand are well ahead of both England and Australia when it comes to net run rate.

That statistic looks almost certain to decide which teams advance to the knock-out phase of the tournament.

After a blistering start to the event against the Australians, the Kiwis have gone a little cold and will be looking for a complete 40-over performance to regain confidence and be best prepared heading into the semi-finals.

Ireland faded badly in their most recent match against Australia, with a top-order collapse leaving them with little chance after being set 180 for the win.

Lorcan Tucker impressed for the Irish in Brisbane, and with some more help early on from Andrew Balbirnie and Paul Stirling, could set a foundation that makes them competitive against a highly accomplished New Zealand team.

The Kiwis will be looking for early wickets through Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson, with Finn Allen, Kane Williamson and Glenn Phillips charged with the responsibility of getting the innings off to a positive start against the pace of Mark Adair and Josh Little.

Prediction

A loss will see the New Zealanders miss out on the finals and their tournament end in misery.

For that reason and considering the attacking and defensive weapons they possess, it is hard to see anything but a convincing win, leaving the English and Aussies to scrap for the right to join them in the final four in the matches that follow.
