The Super 12 portion of the 2022 T20 World Cup continues tonight when Pakistan takes on Zimbabwe in Perth. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 10pm (AEDT).
The reality of the T20 World Cup is that your tilt at glory could be over within a week. That is the situation facing Pakistan, with another loss likely to spell the end to their semi final aspirations.
It is particularly hard given Pakistan featured in one of the best T20 games ever last Sunday night against India. Only Virat Kohli stood between them and victory, with his stunning unbeaten 82 steering India to a thrilling last-ball win.
Those type of losses can hurt the psyche of a team, and Pakistan need to be careful against Zimbabwe tonight. Captain Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan in particular will be keen to kick-start their tournament tonight with plenty of runs.
Zimbabwe emerged with a point from their first Super 12 game, courtesy of rain in Hobart. South Africa were cruising in their chase of a mediocre total in a reduced overs game but were robbed of the chance to finish Zimbabwe off.
Zimbabwe finished first in their qualifying group, with their only loss against the West Indies. Much depends on captain Craig Ervine. If he gets amongst the runs, Zimbabwe will be a chance.
Prediction
Before the T20 World Cup began, Pakistan was one of my picks for the tournament. Their bowling attack on Australian wickets should be first class and Azam is one of the best T20 batters in the world.
They are now in sudden-death mode, and should be too good for a Zimbabwe unit that will struggle against the best teams in the world.
Pakistan by 60 runs or 7 wickets.
