The Big Bash League title is up for grabs tonight when the Perth Scorchers take on the Brisbane Heat at Optus Stadium in the BBL Final. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:30pm (AEDT).

The Heat scored one of the biggest upsets in BBL history on Thursday night, when Michael Neser steered them home against the Sydney Sixers with an unbeaten 48 in the Challenger final. However, if they can knock off the Scorchers, it will go down as an even more stunning win.

The Scorchers have been the form team of BBL12, which is impressive given they have done it without Mitchell Marsh and with Jhye Richardson absent for large parts.

The reigning champions possess the best batting line-up in the competition, with Cam Bancroft, Josh Inglis and Ashton Turner consistently making contributions. Aaron Hardie has also emerged this year as a quality all-rounder.

From a bowling perspective, the Scorchers boast an attack right at home at a pace-friendly Optus Stadium. However, Lance Morris will miss the Final as part of the Test squad to tour India, with Matt Kelly the likely replacement after overcoming a concussion.

No one thought the Heat, without four Test stars in Matt Renshaw, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne and Mitch Swepson, could beat the Sixers. However, with a better wicket in Perth than in Sydney likely to produce more runs, someone within this line-up is going to have to put a score on.

Much of the pressure will be on Sam Hain and Jimmy Peirson, who have shown they can put big innings together. The Heat may need a special knock from opener Josh Brown, who could be dangerous if he gets a start.

Neser is the key bowler in the Heat attack, but hot on his heels is Spencer Johnson, who has made his mark this year. The 27-year old is seriously quick and will be looking forward to making a mark on the final.

Prediction

It would be the stuff of fairytales if the Heat win, but I just can’t see it.

It’s in the batting department where they fall well short of the Scorchers, and this is where the game will be won and lost.

The Scorchers will add to their record as the most successful BBL franchise with title number five.

Perth Scorchers by 50 runs or 5 wickets
