The BBL keeps up its hectic pace tonight with the second double-header of the season. We are heading over to Perth with the Perth Scorchers taking on the defending champs the Melbourne Renegades at Optus Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 9:10pm AEDT.
With a slightly abridged season this year, at least in duration, early momentum is important. Two first-start losers, the Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Renegades, will both be keen on gaining some momentum tonight.
The Scorchers were crushed by the Sixers in Sydney on Wednesday night. Mitchell Marsh and Cameron Green did their best to halt a top-order collapse, but regular wickets fell as the Scorchers could only set the Sixers the modest total of 131 to chase.
They did this with ease, with Josh Philippe continuing on last season’s form with an impressive 81 not out from 44 balls.
We expect a more impressive showing from the Scorchers back at home, with a strong squad headlined by Marsh, Ashton Turner and Ashton Agar. Fawad Ahmed is also a key addition.
One significant loss for the Scorchers is Shaun Marsh, who is playing for the Renegades this season. He began the season with a brilliant 42 on Thursday night against the Thunder, before being well caught by Daniel Sams. After a lightning start from Sam Harper, the 169 total seemed just under par.
And so it proved to be, with great knocks from Usman Khawaja and Alex Hales earning the Thunder their second win.
Prediction
This is an important game for both teams. In front of a big home crowd, I’m predicting that the Scorchers will bounce back.
Although the Renegades have a plant in Shaun Marsh, the Scorchers’ pace attack should be more effective at Optus Stadium.
Perth Scorchers by 15 runs or three wickets.
