The Sydney Thunder have won just one of their last five, so they’re after a win tonight when they travel to face the Perth Scorchers to stay in the BBL finals hunt. Join The Roar for live scores and blog from 9:40pm AEDT.

After an eight-wicket loss to the Melbourne Stars, a DLS loss from a partially washed-out game versus the Heat, a 71-run victory over the Strikers, and a game where the floodlights went off and was declared a draw, the last thing Sydney needed was a 12-run loss to the Renegades.

Adelaide are nipping at their heels, and the Stars currently hold the remaining finals position, leading the men in lime green by a point.

On the other side of the ledger, and Perth are sitting in last place, almost certainly destined to finish outside the top four, and are a good pick for the wooden spoon.

The Scorchers lost five of their first six games, including when they fell to the Thunder in Sydney by a solitary run.

It was a lack of ‘boundaries when it mattered’ for Sydney in their last match, Jason Sangha and Callum Ferguson the diamonds in the rough for them in what was an incredibly uninspiring batting performance.

If Perth get up, they’d jump into sixth place, but a loss would cement them at the ladder’s bottom, while the Thunder need a win to move into fourth, however a loss would put them at the mercy of the Strikers.

The Thunder have what it takes to win in Perth, but they won’t want their openers both getting out for a total of just one run.

Shaun Marsh’s return arguably boosts the home team, but fans will be hoping he provides more than what he did for Australia.
