With the halfway mark of the BBL season past us, every match from now takes on a special significance as teams jockey for position. That’s definitely the case tonight when the Sydney Sixers take on the Hobart Hurricanes at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 7.10pm AEDT.

Although the Sydney Sixers are in second place on the table, they were humbled last Sunday night, with Marcus Stoinis putting on a batting masterclass as he led his Stars team to an easy victory.

Prior to that, though, the Sixers had been impressive, winning their previous five straight.

The top order looks imposing with Josh Philippe, Daniel Hughes and James Vince all in good form. Tom Curran has also been impressive in the final overs of Sixers innings.

Although they will miss Josh Hazlewood, who’s on tour with the Australian ODI team, they have capable seam bowlers in Jackson Bird and Curran and spinners in Lloyd Pope and Steve O’Keefe.

With Steve Smith and Hazlewood to come into this team on their return from India, the Sixers will field a strong side come finals time.

The Hobart Hurricanes, with only three wins to their name, have to put some wins together now to stay in the race for the top five.

With Riley Meredith and James Faulkner suffering injuries and D’Arcy Short in India, the Hurricanes need Matt Wade and Ben McDermott to set large enough totals to defend. So far they haven’t done this.

Key import David Miller appears hopelessly out of form and needs to contribute more up the order.

Qais Ahmad took a bag of wickets the last time these two sides met and will be looking to do this all over again.

Prediction
The Hobart Hurricanes will be desperate for the win tonight but are severely weakened via injury and national selection.

The Sydney Sixers themselves will be keen to atone for their heavy loss to the Stars. I think they will have too much class.

Sydney Sixers by 30 runs or five wickets.
