There was some hot news announced on Monday to staff at Joeys (St Josephs College, Hunters Hill), one of the top rugby union schools in the world, having produced over 50 Wallabies and at least one All Black (Steve Devine).

Joeys has also produced several notable rugby league players, as well.

Famous NRL coach and league analyst Daniel Anderson has been appointed to assist with coaching, especially of the defence, at St Josephs College throughout the coming season. He will assist with coaching across all age grades, not just the First XV.

Br Anthony Boyd and Mr Jeremy Ticehurst remain as coaches of the Joeys First XV.

Anderson is a highly recognised professional league coach, with particular recognition for his skill as a coach at the highest national level.

His appointments have included Director of Coaching, New Zealand Rugby League; Head Coach, New Zealand Kiwis; Head Coach, New Zealand Warriors; Head Coach, Rugby League Samoa; ABC Radio Rugby League Analyst; Head Coach, Parramatta Eels NRL; Head Coach, St Helens in the UK Super League.

Anderson is also an experienced teacher and will be involved in the College as a relief teacher on a regular basis as part of his appointment. He will commence his appointment today.

This is an “interesting” development for Joeys and for GPS schoolboy rugby in Sydney in general. One is reminded of John Muggleton’s career
change from rugby league to professional rugby union.
