Round 13 of the NRL Premiership gets underway tonight when the Gold Coast Titans take on the North Queensland Cowboys at Cbus Super Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7.50pm AEST.

With State of Origin less than a week away, both sides are missing some stars tonight. However, the 2 competition points, especially for a struggling Titans outfit, remains very important.

Last week was the one that got away for the Gold Coast. Leading 24-4 at half time, few would have predicted the 35-24 capitulation by full time. Sure, the Broncos were good, but the Titans are only a shadow of the side that made the finals last year.

It’s easy to blame the halves, with the loss of Jamal Fogarty proving critical for the Gold Coast. However, the halves aren’t responsible for a 31-0 second half loss to Brisbane. The entire team should be held to account for that.

Tino Fa’asuamaleaui will be sorely missed on Origin duty, with David Fifita also out with a knee injury. Moeaki Fotuaika is back from an ankle injury with Isaac Liu filling the other spot in the pack. Patrick Herbert returns to the centres, with Esan Marsters going to the bench.

The Cowboys came back down to earth last week with a 22-0 loss to the Panthers, but they are hardly alone in that regard.

The Cowboys are proving one of the excitement packs of the 2022 NRL season, with older heads like Chad Townsend and Jason Taumalolo feeding off the exciting youth in the camp, including Jeremiah Nanai, Murray Taulagi and Heilum Luki.

Taumalolo is a massive in with Val Holmes, Reuben Cotter, Tom Dearden and Nanai all on Origin duty. Brendan Elliot moves into the backline and Ben Hampton will play 6. Luki gets a start and Connelly Lemuelu joins the bench.

Prediction

Clearly, with only three wins so far, a victory for the Titans is crucial if they are to have any hope of playing semi-final football.

However, despite losing 4 players to Origin, the Cowboys still have a strong look about them.

They will be keen to bounce back from last weekend and I think they will.

North Queensland Cowboys by 8.
