The second week of the finals gets underway tonight when the Manly Sea Eagles take on the Sydney Roosters at BB Print Stadium in Mackay. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:50pm (AEST).

The race for glory in 2021 intensifies tonight. The winner books a ticket to the preliminary final; from there, a grand final is just one more win away. For the loser, it’s a case of close but not close enough.

The Storm went in as favourites last week against the Sea Eagles in their qualifying final, but Manly were seen as an upset chance. The reality was far from that as Melbourne romped to a 40-12 win.

Tom Trbojevic was starved of possession and, when he did get it, was guilty of trying to do too much with the ball. He copped the brunt of the press this week, but his job was made much harder behind a pack that was soundly beaten. Another sub-par performance from the Manly forwards tonight and the Sea Eagles could be out in straight sets.

In team news, Lachlan Croker returns after injury ruled him out of the Storm game. Karl Lawton reverts to the interchange and Curtis Sironen drops out of the 17.

The Roosters progressed last week on the back of a thrilling elimination final win against the Titans. A Sam Walker field goal proved the difference in the end, although the Titans blew a golden opportunity to win the game on full time.

Victor Radley’s return proved important for the Roosters, with his link game and strong defence making them a difficult proposition. As we are used to seeing this season, James Tedesco played multiple roles well; the Sea Eagles need to limit the captain’s influence to win.

For the Roosters, Siosiua Taukeiaho is out with a leg injury and his spot on the bench is taken by a returning Nat Butcher. Sam Verrills’ two-match suspension for a high hit on Brian Kelly has been upheld, forcing Trent Robinson to turn to Ben Marschke at hooker

Prediction

The Roosters come into this game with winning form; however, their completion rate against the Titans was sub-par.

The Sea Eagles were well beaten and will be out for redemption this weekend.

Manly will welcome the extra space they should get this weekend, and Tom Trbojevic should hit back at his critics by having a big game.

I think it will be Manly preparing for a preliminary final against the Rabbitohs.
