NRL action for round 13 ends with the Newcastle Knights taking on the Manly Sea Eagles in the city of Newcastle. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 4.05pm AEST.

With a few of the Newcastle Knights players not being called up for Origin, the Knights find themselves with a stronger lineup than expected.

Kalyn Ponga will play fullback for the first time in 2023, with Tyson Gamble partnering Jackson Hastings in the halves while Lachlan Miller finds himself demoted to the bench. Adam Elliott starts at lock, while Jack Johns replaces Tyson Frizell (Origin) in the second row.

Manly will be brimming with confidence after a stellar performance in the Australian capital to get back to winning ways. However, it comes at a cost with all of the Trbojevic brothers out to injury bar Tom who is on Origin duty.

Mid-season signing Jakob Arthur is named in the 22 man squad, but it’s Cooper Johns who has a crack at halfback in the absence of Daly Cherry-Evans. Lachlan Croker will be the skipper while Christian Tuipulotu is set to come off the bench for his first NRL game in four weeks.

Prediction

Losing half of the spine for Manly will hurt them, especially when they rely heavily on the game management of Cherry-Evans. If Cooper Johns can kick Manly out of trouble when needed, it will give Josh Schuster the field position to create try scoring opportunities. However, expect Kalyn Ponga to fire a shot at the Queensland Maroons selectors with a man of the match performance. Knights by 6.
