The North Queensland Cowboys will be looking to spoil the Penrith Panthers run to the finals as they face off in Townsville this Friday. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting at 6pm AEST.

The Panthers are the only ones with anything still to play for in this game, although the Cowboys are still a possible chance at picking up the wooden spoon.

It is the second trip to Queensland in as many weeks for the western Sydney team, and they will be looking to rectify last weeks poor showing against the Broncos.

To do that they will need to shake off the fatigue players can get from long distance travel, as the effects of the same day trip up to Brisbane was very evident in their performance last week.

In a season to forget up north the Cowboys poor luck continues with the hulking figure of Jason Taumalolo still not a certainty to take the field after he missed last week with a foot injury. Matthew Scott is also ruled out after horrific news came to light that he had suffered a stroke.

The Panthers will be eager to dominate a weakened Cowboys forward pack and it will be here where the key matchup will be fought.

If the Panthers stalwarts in James Tamou and James Fisher-Harris can dominate the new forward combinations of the Cowboys it will do a lot to give their backs some room to move in.

Prediction
The Cows are weakened and have put in lazy performances in recent weeks with better squads than this. The Panthers may struggle to score points but even three tries should be too many for the Cowboys to overcome. Look for a close game that never really feels like the Panthers are in trouble.
