Both winners in the opening round, Parramatta and Melbourne look to leap to the top of the NRL ladder with a win tonight. Conditions will be slippery and potentially promote conservative play in this clash, after an immense amount of rain dumped on Sydney over the last few days.
Craig Bellamy and his troops will not mind that one bit, being well versed in both winning the grind and playing the percentages. A tight win against the Bunnies last week will see them enter this match confidently despite still being without some unavailable talent.
The Eels mounted an enormous comeback against the Broncos in week one and dominated the second half. Their flair and point-scoring prowess may be somewhat negated by the conditions, but for Brad Arthur’s men to be considered true premiership contenders, beating the Storm on a wet night might be a necessity in the eyes of many pundits.
Prediction
If you had backed the Storm each and every week since their birth you would be a rather wealthy tipster. It is hard to see the flashy Eels doing the little things well enough for long enough to beat Melbourne tonight.
Should the rain ease, Parramatta’s chances may increase, yet this game is set up for a typical and clinical Storm performance.
