Round 6 of the NRL Premiership continues tonight when the Penrith Panthers take on the Brisbane Broncos at BlueBet Stadium in Penrith. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7.55pm (AEST).

The Penrith juggernaut rolls on and the next target on the hit list is the Brisbane Broncos. The Broncos occupy a spot in the lower half of the 8, but their effort against the Roosters last Friday night suggests there may be better times ahead.

But first, the Panthers never reached any great heights, but easily accounted for the Bulldogs 32-12 last Sunday evening.

Despite the reigning premiers losing some players ahead of this season, the Panthers look like they could do it all again. Izack Tago has proved a revelation in the centres whilst Taylan May has filled the big shoes of the injured Brian To’o.

Ivan Cleary gets the luxury of naming an unchanged 17 for this match.

The Broncos held a 10-0 half time lead against the Roosters but eventually relented 24-20 in a high quality game. Whilst a further loss for the Broncos, maintenance of this form should result in a much improved season.

Kotoni Staggs showed what he is capable of against the Roosters. He dominated Paul Momirovski all night and most of the Broncos good work in attack came via the Broncos right edge. Billy Walters was also impressive at 5/8th.

In a big blow to the Broncos, Payne Haas was not considered following the NRL’s sanction for the incident with Albert Kelly last month. Corey Jensen comes in with Rhys Kennedy joining the bench.

Prediction

The Broncos were impressive last Friday night but taking on the Panthers in Penrith is another challenge altogether.

Nathan Cleary’s kicking game can slowly strangle opposition teams and I don’t expect any difference this time around.
