The Sydney Roosters host the North Queensland Cowboys in Saturday afternoon NRL. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 3:00pm AEST.

With some refreshing recent form, the Roosters enter this match off the back of four straight wins and with some newfound hope, as the competition draws ever closer to the knock-out phase.

The Chooks towelled up the Broncos last week and will enjoy the comfort of the same venue when they tackle the consistent Cowboys, who have been superb on the road this season.

Currently in eighth place, the Roosters still have hope of scraping into the top four, yet do face a tricky run home over the next month.

North Queensland will play in an emotional mood after the death of Paul Green on Thursday, and are out to all but lock up second position on the ladder with yet another win away from their home base. The Bulldogs were brave in Round 21, yet no match for the Cows in the end, and four wins from their last five matches have Todd Payten’s men roaring towards the finals in excellent form and with a majority of troops available.

Team news sees both squads settled at the selection table. The Roosters have named Sam Verrills at hooker, whilst Egan Butcher returns after his suspension. North Queensland are still without the services of Kyle Feldt for this clash, but Jordan McLean does return to the bench after recovering from the hamstring injury that cost him a spot in the Blues side during the State of Origin series.

Prediction

Whilst the season-long and consistent form of the Cowboys is hard to ignore, the Roosters do appear to be coming with a rush across the final two months of the season and will enter this match with a very good chance of toppling the visitors.

My head says the Cowboys’ polish might be enough to ruffle the Roosters’ feathers, yet the Chooks are awesome when in top form and with Sam Walker and Luke Keary in control, the Cowboys, assured of a finals position, could well be caught off guard by a Tricolours outfit with plenty to play for.

This is a nail-biter in the making and the Roosters will win it 21-20 in golden point extra-time.
