Round 5 of the NRL premiership begins tonight when the Sydney Roosters take on the Parramatta Eels at Allianz Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 8pm (AEDT).

This round of the NRL certainly gets off to a flyer tonight with a clash between two of the competition’s heavyweights. With this year shaping up as one of the tightest in years, every 2 points is crucial.

The Roosters enjoyed the bye last week. The previous week, after an indifferent start to the season, they rolled their nemesis, the Rabbitohs, in a thriller.

Brandon Smith and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves changed the game when they came off the bench. They established control through the ruck and, from there, Tedesco, Walker and Keary kept the Rabbits defence guessing.

In team changes, Joey Manu is out through suspension with Drew Hutchison moving into the centres. Corey Allan comes onto the bench, along with Naufahu Whyte who replaces Terrell May.

After a tough start to the season, the Eels got their premiership tilt back on track last round with a golden point win over the Panthers.

Despite some heroics from Nathan Cleary, Mitchell Moses went some way to justifying his price tag by slotting home the winning field goal. It was a brutal clash, with both teams looking to dominate through the forwards. Reagan Campbell-Gillard was outstanding against his former club.

Junior Paulo is a big loss, missing for a fortnight due to suspension, with Wiremu Greig taking his spot. Jack Murchie has recovered from a head knock and joins the bench.

Prediction

The Eels’ record against the Panthers in recent years is probably better than any other club.

However, these clashes are always hard fought and there are likely to be a few sore Eels players tonight. The Roosters have the advantage of being fresh after the bye and that is a big plus.

The Eels will be right in this for the first hour but will fade away late.
