The Women’s State of Origin concludes tonight when Queensland take on NSW at Queensland Country Bank Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:45pm (AEST).

Queensland get the chance at home tonight to ice the 2023 Origin series. In this year’s two-game series, a win or a loss by 8 or less will be enough for the Maroons. On the other hand, the Blues will be keen for early points to erase the deficit and try and steal the series win.

The Blues got beaten in the backs first up. The loss of Tiana Penitani pre-game and Isabelle Kelly to a horrible throat injury seemed to unsettle New South Wales. They weren’t able to withstand Queensland’s backline raids.

In team changes, Kelly has been named whilst Penitani and Simaima Taufa will play their first games for this series. Taliah Fuimaono will move from centre into her preferred halves whilst Taufa’s inclusion at lock shifts Kennedy Cherrington to the bench.

Queensland fully deserved their Game 1 win. Shannon Mato and Keilee Joseph overshadowed their highly rated front row opponents. From there, Tarryn Aiken was the best player on the field, being the catalyst in most of the Maroon attack.

There is only one change for Queensland, with China Polata replacing Julia Robinson on the wing. Robinson was suspended after her elbow on Kelly.

Prediction

The quality of the first game was hampered by errors, perhaps understandable given the timing of this clash. Both sides will need to cut down on dropped ball to figure in this game.

The Blues definitely take on a stronger look and I expect them to lift for this.

There will be plenty of pressure on Jesse Southwell again but she has experienced the cauldron now. If she can unlock this classy NSW backline, they will win.

NSW by 10 points
