The Hurricanes and Jaguares will go head to head in Wellington to kick off Round 14 of the Super Rugby. Both teams are trying to hunt down their respective conference leaders and will want to take momentum into the finals in a few weeks time. For the Jaguares their tough road trip continues with this game against the Canes. They performed well last week against the Highlanders but missed out on the win by five points and will have felt they could have done better.

The tactic they used in Dunedin was to have some of their most experienced talent coming on in the second half off the bench looking to make an impact.

It almost worked but coach Gonzalo Quesada has decided to go back to more traditional approaches.

He’s brought back four Puma internationals to the starting line up including Agustin Creevy, Guido Petti, Pablo Matera and Tomas Lavanini.

This is some serious power and aggression up front that Quesada will be hoping will knock the Canes off their game and stop their dangerous backs getting clean, quick ball.

If this new line up can get a surprise win then they’ve got the chance to take over top spot in the South African conference.

The Sharks are on the bye this week and the Bulls are away to the Rebels – with the Jags just one point behind first place this would be a great time to make the move.

However this isn’t going to be easy. The home side are on a roll at the moment and just keep looking better and better. In the past few weeks they’ve shown that they can tear teams to ribbons with their attack and also have the trust in their defence to withstand long periods of pressure.

Coach John Plumtree apparently sees no reason to mess with this winning set up and has only made two changes. Beauden Barrett is being rested and replaced by James Marshall and while Marshall isn’t a like for like switch, he is an experienced player who will fit in well with the Canes back line.

The other change is down to injury as Reed Prinsep is out of action. Du’Plessis Kirifi is brought in to the starting line up with Ardie Savea shiting to No.8.

Prediction
The Jags are going to have to play out of their skin to threaten the Canes at home. They have a pack that could really challenge the home side but they need to be disciplined for 80 minutes and find a way to turn forward disruption into points.

In the end it’s hard to see the Canes losing this one – their all round game is too impressive at the moment.

Hurricanes to win by 12.
