Perth Glory welcome Wellington Phoenix to HBF Park on Saturday evening in Round 17 of the 2018-19 A-League season. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 10pm (AEDT).
It has been some time since a Distance Derby has drawn as much interest and been so keenly anticipated as this one, and quite rightly.
Both Perth Glory and Wellington Phoenix are in superb form.
Ladder leaders Perth are chasing a club-record fourth straight clean sheet, while the Phoenix are unbeaten in their last five games on the road.
Glory boss Tony Popovic has mixed up his starting XI of late but will be delighted with the return he has seen from his squad.
Despite two goalless draws in January his side have scored 33 times already this season and it would be no surprise to see that tally rise tonight.
Glory’s attacking threat has been bolstered by the return of Chris Ikonomidis from AFC Asian Cup duty.
The Phoenix haven’t been shy in front of goal either with the in-form David Williams leading the line.
Mark Rudan’s men are playing attractive football but also showed they can dig deep following last weekend’s hard-fought 1-0 win over Melbourne City.
Prediction
This game has all the ingredients to be a Hyundai A-League special. Two teams playing with confidence, pace, skill and at times swagger. You won’t want to miss this one.
