In what is certain to be the most aggressive and tasty match-up of the first weekend of A-League Men action, Western Sydney Wanderers will seek to continue its recent derby dominance over Sydney FC when the teams meet at CommBank Stadium. The Wanderers have once again made wholesale squad changes, with Ramy Najjarine, Adama Traore, Tomer Hemed, Rhys Williams, Terry Antonis, Johnny Koutroumbis and Dimitri Petratos all likely to make a significant impact in the red and black in 2021-22.
Sydney FC will look very much the same as in recent years, with Elvis Kamsoba potentially the wild card that the entire A-League world is keen to see utilised by coach Steve Corica.
Brazilian Bobo and Englishman Adam le Fondre will no doubt rack up a stack of goals this season, however the Wanderers have blunted their effectiveness in recent times and will look to do so again tonight and begin the season with a serious statement.
It is a statement required by manager Carl Robinson. After a now extended period in charge, it is time for him to deliver and what better way to do so than against the most consistent A-League Men’s team.
With combinations yet to be formed at Western Sydney, this fixture will be decided on guts, determination and persistence; something Sydney FC have shown in spades in recent times.
