Every year the Dally M Medal is awarded to the highest-polling player in the NRL. In 2019, James Tedesco of the Sydney Roosters will enter the count as the favourite.

The count is held every year on the Wednesday leading up to the Grand Final. In 2019, that is Wednesday 2 October, and the count will start at approximately 8:30pm AEST.

In each season, votes are publicly revealed for each match up until the conclusion of Round 12. After this, the votes remain hidden away, and are counted on the night.

Leaderboard at end of Round 12
1. Mitchell Pearce, Newcastle Knights – 15
2. Cameron Munster, Melbourne Storm – 14
2. Damien Cook, South Sydney Rabbitohs – 14
4. Jason Taumalolo, North Queensland Cowboys – 12
4. Cameron Smith, Melbourne Storm – 12
4. James Tedesco, Sydney Roosters – 12
7. Mitchell Moses, Parramatta Eels – 11
8. Cody Walker, South Sydney Rabbitohs – 10
8. Clint Gutherson, Parramatta Eels – 10
8. Chad Townsend, Cronulla Sharks – 10

Although Mitchell Pearce heads the leaderboard at the halfway mark of the season, he’s not expected to be a serious contender for the medal on the night, going out to $31 odds.

Instead, Sydney’s James Tedesco is heavily favoured to win – priced at $1.30 with the bookies. It would come as no surprise, after an excellent season.

Even though he may have played his last game in the NRL, Melbourne Storm’s Cameron Smith is in with a serious chance to win his third medal, after previously winning in 2006 and 2017.

Mitchell Moses and last year’s winner Roger Tuivasa-Sheck are both serious chances, and Cameron Munster and Jason Taumalolo will also be in the mix.
