Lleyton Hewitt will face five-time defending champion Roger Federer in the fourth round at Wimbledon after an emphatic victory over Simone Bolelli today.

Hewitt, the No.20 seed, got the early jump on his Italian opponent en route to a 6-1 6-3 7-6 (7-2) win in two hours and four minutes after a delayed start due to rain.

World No.1 Federer had an even easier third-round match, beating No.53 Marc Gicquel of France 6-3 6-3 6-1 in a match that started after Hewitt’s and finished before.

Hewitt, the 2002 champion who is now ranked 27th, sped away to a 3-0 lead and broke 22-year-old Bolelli again in the sixth game before claiming the set when Bolelli sent a return long.

It was a similar story in the second set, with the 27-year-old Australian completely out-playing the 46th-ranked Italian, claiming a break in the third game and again in the ninth for a two-sets-to-love lead.

Hewitt held match point in the 10th game of the third set, but Bolelli saved it with an ace and then managed to hold serve twice to force the tiebreak.

The Australian grabbed a 2-1 lead on Bolelli’s serve in the decider and stretched it to 4-1 as the Italian made a string of errors.

Hewitt claimed victory on his first of four match points with an ace.
