Sydney Roosters stalwart Anthony Minichello has been confirmed as Josh Dugan’s replacement for the NSW Blues State of Origin team, in his first game for the NSW Blues since 2007. ‘Mini’, who has played nine tests for the Blues, will be making a stunning comeback to the series.

Josh Dugan was earlier ruled out after succumbing to an ankle injury suffered while playing for the Canberra Raiders on Sunday.

Minichello was rated the best player in the NRL in 2005, but back problems halted a stellar career for a number of years before making a return in 2010.

The move indicates NSW coach Ricky Stuart will play Jarryd Hayne will play on the wing with Minichello at fullback.

Minichello will join the Blues team tonight ahead of the second game of the State of Origin series on June 15th.
