Sibling cycling stars Alex and Annette Edmondson have won the Australian omnium championships, with Annette overcoming surgery to take out her third women’s title.

Alex won the men’s elite title in the multi-discipline track event for the first time in Melbourne and Annette successfully defended her championship, less than a month after sinus surgery.

The South Australian pair rode at the London Olympics, where Annette won bronze in the omnium.

WA’s Isabella King shared the lead after four events, but Annette won the last two to secure the crown again.

“I was off the bike for a couple of weeks and I really had no idea where I was going to be at,” she said.

“In the end, it came down to tactics rather than physical ability and I’m really happy to get this one because it was an important one for me.

“I’ve got the nose sorted out and it’s full gas from here.”

King finished second and Ashlee Ankudinoff (NSW) was third.

Alex, a member of the world-champion team pursuit squad, won three of the six events to finish well clear of Scott Law (NSW) and fellow SA rider Miles Scotson.

“It’s pretty cool to say I’m the omnium champion,” said Edmondson, who turns 20 on Sunday.

“It’s the heptathlon of cycling, it’s the best of everything.”

Sam Welsford (WA) and Josie Talbot (NSW) won the under-19 omnium titles.
