Melbourne Cup 2014: Top 10 finishers in order

The 2014 Melbourne Cup was won by Protectionist, followed by Red Cadeaux and Who Shot Thebarman.

Red Cadeaux broke away as the runners hit the final straight, but the German horse, thanks to an incredible turn of speed, took the lead to win comfortably, claiming the first ever Melbourne Cup for Germany.

The race favourite, Admire Rakti led the field for a good portion of the race, but was overtaken as the pack rounded the final corner.

Admire Rakti finished the race in last place and tragically passed away following the race.
