Jarryd Hayne yesterday very publicly announced a 15-20 week rookie contract with the San Francisco 49ers, giving away that his deal was worth around $100,000. But San Francisco have announced something different on their official website: a three-year deal.

The 49ers posted the following story on their official 49ers.com website a short time ago this morning:

NRL Star Jarryd Hayne Signs Three-year Deal with 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers announced Tuesday they have signed undrafted free agent Jarryd Hayne to a three-year deal.
Hayne (6-2, 220) has spent the past nine years (2006-14) in the National Rugby League (NRL) with the Parramatta Eels. In 2014, Hayne won numerous Dally M Awards, which are given to the best and fairest player over the entire National Rugby League regular season, as he was named the Player of the Year, Best Fullback, Top Tryscorer and Representative Player. Hayne previously won the Dally M Player of the Year and Best Fullback Awards in 2009, the Best Winger Award in 2007, and the Best Rookie Award in 2006. He also represented Fiji in the 2008 Rugby League World Cup and Australia in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.

A 27-year-old native of Minto, a suburb of Sydney in New South Wales Australia, Hayne comes from an athletic family as his father, Manoa Thompson, is a former professional rugby league player who represented Fiji on the national rugby team.

Hayne’s management explained to The Roar that the deal is not a traditional three-year commitment to the franchise, in the sense of an NRL or AFL contract that is signed by the player.

Every unrestricted free agent has to sign a three-year deal, if it’s not a futures contract. Hayne is on a rookie deal, and will be training for the next 15 to 20 weeks with the 49ers. The three-year element of the contract is standard for all players in Hayne’s position, and he is free to leave the 49ers for another club without breaking his contract.

The situation is still completely in Hayne’s hands – with a deal with the 49ers squad on the table if he impresses in the coming months.
