Richie Porte is perhaps Australia’s second most recognisable cyclist behind Tour de France winner Cadel Evans.

Porte has spoken about his time at Team Sky.

Since 2012 Porte has been seen as the workhorse for fellow teammates Geraint Thomas, Bradley Wiggins and close friend Chris Froome – while sacrificing his own career aspirations.

Porte commented to Fairfax Media “At the end of the day, when I am second on stages and things like that behind Chris after working, I know that it is time to go and do my own thing. I don’t know if this team [Sky] really appreciates the work that I have done for them on the road over the years. But I’m really looking forward to finishing it up on a high with Chris.”

However 2016 looks to be much different for the Tasmanian. Porte is scheduled to be changing teams with experts predicting team BMC will snatch the talented Tassie, however there has been speculated interest from Etixx-Quick-step and notorious long time Porte fans Orica Orica-GreenEDGE.

When given the opportunity, Porte has proved that he is quite capable of snatching stages in the Tour Down Under.

Judging from his performance at this year’s Tour of Catalonia and his form in the 2015 Tour de France, he is a serious contender for winning a Grand Tour in the near future.

We will find out where Richie Porte will call his new home after August first.
