Port Adelaide have landed Charlie Dixon in a three-team deal after Richmond stepped in to help resolve the frustrated negotiations between the Power and Gold Coast.

The Power have given up pick 10 in this year’s draft and their 2016 future second rounder in order to land Dixon who kicked 41 goals as a Sun this year.

As part of the deal, the Suns also trade pick 19 from this year’s draft to Richmond, securing pick 31 from Richmond as well as the Tigers’ second round pick in 2016. They also give pick 49 to Port Adelaide.

All up it means the Suns gain picks 10 and 31 along with two future second round picks, while giving up Dixon and pick 19.

Richmond are expected to on-trade pick 19 to Carlton in a deal for Chris Yarran.

To simplify the trade, here’s the ins and outs for both teams:

Gold Coast
IN: Picks 10 and 31, Port’s 2016 second-round pick, Richmond’s 2016 second-round pick
OUT: Charlie Dixon, picks 19 and 49

Port Adelaide
IN: Charlie Dixon, pick 49
OUT: Pick 10, 2016 second-round pick

Port are thrilled to add Dixon who will give them another tall option in their forward line and will also be able to provide some ruckwork.

Dixon played 65 games for the Suns kicking 94 goals in that time but requested a trade to the Power at the end of the season.

“It’s great to bring a player of Charlie’s ability to the club and we look forward to helping him developing his football with our group,” said Port’s football manager Chris Davies.

“We believe Charlie can really complement our team as help us get stronger in 2016.”

Dixon said he was excited to be moving to Port Adelaide.

“I’m really looking forward to joining Port Adelaide as I’ve been really impressed with the club and in particular with the structures that Ken Hinkley has put in place,” Dixon said.

“I’ve met a few of the players and I’m really excited about putting my head down working hard to do what I can to help improve myself and the Port Adelaide Football Club.

“I’d also like to thank the Gold Coast Suns for their support, I’ve made some great friends and really appreciate the opportunity the club has given me.”

While the Suns didn’t get the two first round picks they were after, they were happy to secure a number of later draft selections.

“We were clear with Port Adelaide from the outset that it would take more than selection 10 to secure a trade for Charlie, and we were looking to generate future currency in the 2016 draft,” said Marcus Ashcroft, Gold Coast’s football manager.

“Pleasingly, we have got to a positon where we have significantly strengthened our position for future drafts.”

Ashcroft also gave some acknowledgement to Dixon’s contribution to the Suns.

“Charlie played a significant part in our establishment, his name appears numerous times in our history books, and as our first ever goal kicker he will forever be associated with our football club, and we wish him and his family all the very best in the future,” he said.
