On the second last day of the trade period, Collingwood have finally landed Adam Treloar, trading their first rounds picks in this year’s draft and next’s to secure the elite midfielder.

The Magpies received pick 28 in this year’s draft back in return, and also passed on pick 65 from this year’s draft to the Giants.

After more than a week of negotiations and more than a little controversy, Magpies fans will be thrilled to have finally secured their big-name target.

Treloar finishes his time at the Giants having played 79 games for the club. This year he averaged 27 disposals and five tackles per game, while also kicking 14 goals for the season.

“Adam has established himself as one of the competition’s most prolific young midfielders,” said Collingwood list manager Derek Hine.

“As with Jack Crisp, Taylor Adams, Brodie Grundy and Jordan De Goey, we feel Adam is on the cusp of playing his best football and together that group of players will form the side’s core midfield over the next decade.”

“That’s an extremely exciting prospect for Collingwood fans.”

The Giants while no doubt disappointed to lose one of their foundation players will be happy to have closed the deal, landing a significant bounty in draft value.

“We were always looking to maximise the level of compensation for Adam and by receiving two first round draft selections we’ve well and truly achieved that,” said Giants football manager Graeme Allan.

“First round selections are obviously highly sought after so to receive two as part of this trade is an outstanding result for our club.

“Negotiating a trade like this can take time but as a result we’re pleased to have secured the best possible outcome for the Giants.

“These first round picks are significant when it comes to our draft strategy this year and in 2016. They put us in a strong position to further enhance our playing list by bringing in high quality players over the next two draft and trade periods.”
