Carlton have traded Chris Yarran to Richmond, accepting pick 19 in a trade that took place less than an hour before the final deadline.

After haggling throughout the trade period over a price for Yarran, the Blues and Tigers were finally able to get a deal done with little time left on the clock.

Carlton were insistent all trade period on acquiring Richmond’s first round selection, pick 12, even when the Tigers first offered them pick 19, which they gained through a trade with Gold Coast.

However the Tigers held firm and with time running out, and Carlton eventually agreed to do a deal.

The Tigers are happy to have secured Yarran, who will add some pace and a creative kick to their side.

“We clearly targeted Chris early in the trade period, as a player we believe will add great value to our playing list,” said Tigers football manager Dan Richardson.

“We’re pleased to have completed a trade to get him to the Club, and we look forward to him settling in at Tigerland.

“He will be 25 years of age when the 2016 season begins and we believe his best football is still ahead of him.”

Yarran finishes his time at Carlton having played 119 games for the club after being drafted at pick 6 in the 2008 draft.

His final year at the club was one to forget, as he was twice dropped to the VFL, and on occasion failed to meet the Blues’ training standards.

Given that, Carlton will be exceedingly happy to have secured a first round pick in return for his departure.

“From the outset we had two objectives – firstly, to strengthen our early draft selections – and I am pleased we have secured four picks inside the top 20 which gives us a great launchpad heading into the draft,” said Blues list manager Stephen Silvagni.

“Secondly we wanted to bring in some young, competitive, hardworking talent, all with AFL system experience.

“They are hungry and passionate for the opportunity to represent Carlton and I am sure they will develop under the tutelage of our coach Brendon Bolton and his new coaching panel.

“Now we turn our attention to the draft as we continue to build.”
