A recent finger fracture should not hinder Adam Scott at this week’s US Open, according to Australian coach Dale Lynch.

Lynch accompanied world No.3 Scott and former Open champion Geoff Ogilvy during a practice round at Torrey Pines yesterday and saw no reason to question the world No.3’s readiness for the year’s second major title.

“Adam seemed to be swinging fine yesterday. On the back nine particularly, I thought he hit it very well,” said Lynch.

“There was no obvious discomfort. There is maybe some swelling still there, but I don’t think Adam’s fans need be worried.”

Scott, who took today off, has not spoken publicly about his injury, but he evidently fractured a bone above the little finger of his right hand when he jammed it in a car door last month.

He has not played competitively in more than a month, but the area of the injury does not play much of a part in the golf swing, according to Lynch.

Scott will not be able to ease his way into the championship quietly, because he will play the first two rounds with Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.

Not only are Woods and Mickelson the world’s top two players, but both are Californians.

Woods was raised a little north of here in the Los Angeles area, while Mickelson is a local San Diego product, who still lives nearby.

This is the second successive major that Scott has not had an ideal preparation.

He fell ill with a severe throat infection the week before the Masters, where he eventually finished equal 25th.
