After two weeks of evasive action, Sonny Bill Williams was this week served with NSW court documents after they were thrown over a fence as he trained with his French rugby union club.

Despite receiving the official court documents informing him of an injunction hearing underway today, the runaway rugby league star is unrepresented in the NSW Supreme Court.

A small army of barristers representing the Bulldogs rugby league club and the NRL gathered at the Sydney court to argue for an injunction to prevent Williams from playing rugby union in France.

If they are successful, Williams will be in contempt of court if he proceeds to play in a friendly match for Toulon, which kicks off early Saturday morning Sydney time.

It is the third no-show by Williams or his legal representatives since he left the Bulldogs for the more lucrative Toulon contract.

Barrister Noel Hutley, for the Bulldogs NRL club, told the court documents were served on Williams this week.

He said a process server threw the papers over the fence of the training pitch after spotting Williams at a training session.

A Toulon trainer then picked up the documents and handed them to Williams, the court was told.

“As a bonus, Mr Williams was personally served,” Justice Robert Austin said.

“Sounds like the job’s been done.”

Mr Hutley told the court they wanted Williams to return to the Bulldogs.

“We wish for him to continue to play for our team,” he said.

The hearing continues.
