The recent behavior of many footballers both on and off the field is despicable. So here’s one way to punish the teams more for these indiscretions: when the tribunal suspends players for a few matches, their team should then play those games a player down.

This would balance the level of the good teams who play the game in an acceptable manner.

Many financially well-off clubs don’t really suffer from the withdrawal of a badly behaved team member.

They can have several members on suspension and their form continues, often accruing more suspensions along the way.

I’m sure if the club had to play without the offending players, with no substitutions, the team as a whole would soon be playing with much better discipline.
