In the history of Australian sports, there have been many memorable moments that have been passed on from generation to generation. But what are the ten greatest moments in Australian sports, the ones that had people saying, “I was there”?

Here are what I think are the ten greatest moments in the history of Australian sport:

1. Australia II winning the America’s Cup from the US for the first time in 1983.
2. The Socceroos defeating Uruguay in 2005 to qualify for the FIFA World Cup finals for the first time since 1974.
3. Catherine Freeman’s victory in the 400m at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
4. The Wallabies conquering the ‘Big 4’ of European rugby in 1984: England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland.
5. Maykbe Diva winning her third Melbourne Cup.
6. The ‘Invincibles’ of 1982, where the Australian rugby league side went through Britain & France undefeated.
7. Greg Norman winning the 1993 British Open, playing some of the most flawless golf you will see.
8. Australia regaining the Ashes against the old enemy England 4-0 in 1989.
9. Australia victorious over New Zealand in the 1991 netball world cup final by a point.
10. The 1970 VFL Grand Final between Carlton and Collingwood-a record crowd; “Jesaulenko you beauty!”; Ted Hopkins four goals; and possibly Ron Barassi’s finest achievement as a coach.

What do you think have been the ten greatest moments in Australian sports history?
