It's not un-Australian to cheer against Australia - in fact, in our favourite sports, it is the best option

Reni Maitua is in a deep thinking mood at the moment. The former Bulldogs player is looking for ways to extract revenge on those that have cost him his career at Canterbury.
He is analysing thoughts against those that are trying to de-register the former Test star from ever playing rugby league again on Australian shores.
That does not necessarily mean he is going to go on a murderous rampage of sorts across Belmore.
Far from it.
For Maitua’s vengeance to succeed, the 26 year old plans to look within and change certain parts of his lifestyle that simply went out of control.
One of the present difficulties that has cast Maitua into the abyss is his alcohol problem, despite the fact that he thinks he is a normal everyday drinker.
Maitua harbours these views on himself, even though he was fined $15,000 by the Bulldogs for Drink Driving some years ago, with an alcohol reading of 0.165 – three times over the legal limit for full licensed drivers, let alone P platers.
That incident was the ignition that led to Maitua’s involvement in off-field controversy that has now cost him dearly.
Although he thinks the Bulldogs board has acted unfairly against his case, Maitua plans to strike back quickly – by temporarily giving up alcohol.
As Maitua puts it, alcohol is the last thing on his mind at the moment. He would even consider giving it away for twelve months if he was offered a contract elsewhere in the NRL.
Now that he has presumably given up drinking, Maitua still has plenty of work to do to fight his way back to the form that garnered him a Grand final victory and a Kangaroos Test jersey.
If his comments are anything to go by however, Maitua has the necessary support to succeed in his quest for redemption.
