David Stagg is one of the most efficient tackling machines in the NRL, and could be the key man in stopping the on and off field frailties that have severely corrupted the Bulldogs premiership cause in recent seasons.

Stagg is currently odds on to head to Belmore in 2009, with the Bulldogs eager for a replacement for Reni Maitua who was sacked by the club last week for missing training.

The Broncos themselves have stated that they will not stand in Stagg’s way if he chooses to leave Brisbane for a career with the Bulldogs.

Although Maitua is the better player in his prime, Stagg’s possible arrival to Belmore will provide the Bulldogs with much needed consistency and effort.

Stagg has proven himself to be a very dependable footballer so far at the Broncos, whether it be in attack or defence, with his consistent high tackle counts only rivalled by experienced workhorses Nathan Hindmarsh, Nathan Friend and Dallas Johnson.

Stagg even holds the premiership record for most tackles made in a match by any player in history.

He made 64 tackles against the Cronulla Sharks in round 19 2004, which started the ignition for what has become a successful career in first grade, winning a premiership with the Broncos in 2006 whilst also making his lone Origin appearance for QLD in the same year.

At 25 years of age, and with 90 games of NRL experience under his belt, Stagg is ready to head to the Bulldogs next season and immediately assume a leadership role with the club.

If he does decide to make his way to Belmore, Stagg will be a worthy addition to what is already looking like a formidable Bulldogs line-up for next season.

Stagg is guaranteed to succeed playing alongside proven performers Luke Patten, Andrew Ryan, Matt Utai, Michael Hodgson, Josh Morris, Michael Ennis, Brett Kimmorley and Hazem El Masri.

His signature is a win win proposition for both the Bulldogs and Stagg.
