Making a noise no problem for Miller

It didn’t take long for recovering Queensland Roar dangerman Charlie Miller to make a noise on his welcome A-League return.

Indeed, Roar coach Frank Farina joked that he had heard more than enough of the colourful Scot before last Saturday’s crucial Brisbane clash against Sydney FC had begun.

“I said to him we had weeks of quiet dressing rooms and now you are back,” Farina laughed.

Fortunately Miller also didn’t waste time making his presence felt on the field.

In his first game back from hernia surgery, Miller ran out in the crucial clash in the 80th minute.

By the 93rd, he had set up Dutch striker Sergio van Dijk’s third goal and a telling 3-1 win.

It kept Queensland on track for a top two finish – and ensured glamour club Sydney FC would miss the finals for the first time in A-League history.

Miller missed five games after much needed surgery, opening the door for youngster Mitch Nichols to star.

Now Miller is desperate to make up for lost time in Queensland’s high stakes regular season finale against Perth at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night.

The Roar have already accumulated enough competition points (33 from 20 games) to ensure they will finish higher on the A-League ladder than in any previous season.

But topping the table is the priority – and clearly Miller wants to play a major role after his weekend cameo.

“I’d love to play 90 (minutes). I don’t know if I can. I’d love to play 60 and see how it goes,” Miller said.

“It was a good 10 minutes (against Sydney FC).

“I had one touch and I was fortunate to give Sergio an assist.

“It was good to be back on the field. I hope I can play more this week and be ready for the finals.”

But the former Glasgow Rangers star revealed he was still battling pain in his recovery.

“I’ve still got an injury, I can still feel it,” he said.

“Hopefully the more I train and get better, the pain will go away.

“I’ve still got a lot of pain there so I just hope I can get over that and play my best for the team.

“I’m looking forward to the end of the season now just to play as many games as possible.

“Hopefully we can be in a great position and win the title.”
