Twelve players involved in this weekend’s A-League grand final have been named in a 24-strong Socceroos squad for next week’s Asian Cup qualifier against Kuwait at Canberra.

Coach Pim Verbeek unveiled the squad for the March 5 clash on Tuesday.

It was dominated by players from Adelaide United and Melbourne who clash in Saturday night’s grand final at Telstra Dome.

Verbeek was tipped to include overseas-based players who did not feature in regular first team action but instead opted to dip solely into the A-League.

Adelaide United duo Fabian Barbiero and Daniel Mullen as well as Queensland youngster Mitch Nichols and Newcastle’s Ben Kantarovski are the debutants.

Mullen’s father Joe played two matches for the Socceroos in 1988 against European clubs IFK Gtenburg and Dinamo Zagreb.

The Socceroos have been drawn in Group B of the AFC Asian Cup 2011 qualification stage along with Indonesia, Kuwait and Oman.

The top two teams from each group will progress to the AFC Asian Cup 2011 in Qatar.
