Stats suggest Australia isn't playing that bad

Having read so many differing opinions about Australia’s fortunes in this Ashes campaign and the call for changes or recalling of players to the side, I thought it might be an idea to have a look at how bad, or good, we look on paper.

Now, I know games aren’t won on paper or by stats alone, but they do make for some interesting reading:

BOWLING:
4 of the top 5 wicket takers are Australian

1) Hilfenhaus 13Wkts @ 30.38, 2)Anderson 12Wkts @ 31.50
3) Hauritz 10Wkts @ 32.10, 4) Siddle 10Wkts @ 40.10,
5) Johnson 10Wkts @ 42.30.

BATTING:
4 of the top 5 run scorers are Australian
1) Clarke 352 runs @ 88.00, 2) Strauss 309 runs @ 61.80
3) Katich 248 runs @ 49.60, 4) North 239 runs @ 59.75,
Ponting 233 runs @ 46.60. (All batsmen have played 5 innings each in 3 Tests).

At this stage of the series, I would suggest that Australia is more than capable of winning one of the last two Test matches without major changes to either batting or bowling,

But only time will tell!
