Victoria have moved into the semi-finals of the Champions League Twenty20 cricket tournament in India, despite suffering an eight-wicket loss to South Africa’s Cape Cobras in a League Stage clash in Bangalore delayed by a security scare.

The game started 100 minutes late and was reduced to`17 overs a side after police and security staff checked the stadium twice following the discovery of a suspicious bag during a regulation security sweep.

The loss opened the door for Delhi Daredevils to possibly join Victoria and the Cobras on four points if they won their two League B matches.

However, the Daredevils’ hopes were extinguished by an eight-wicket loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore in the late game of the double-header.

The result means none of the three Indian teams have made it through to the semi-finals.

Victoria remained top of League B on run rate ahead of the Cobras despite their loss, but the slick South African outfit will finish top if they defeat Delhi in the final game of the phase on Monday.

The Bushrangers will either play in Delhi on Wednesday or Hyderabad on Thursday, with Trinidad and Tobago, New South Wales or South Africa’s Diamond Eagles providing the opposition.

Against the Cobras, Victoria finished on 5-125 after a disastrous start in which they lost two wickets in the first over. Rob Quiney scooped the first delivery of the match from Monde Zondeki (2-21) to fine leg and Brad Hodge was bowled two balls later.

A number of Bushrangers produced batting cameos, but none played a major innings.

Aiden Blizzard (22) and David Hussey (19 off 22) threatened in the first half of the innings.

Andrew McDonald (29 not out off 22) added 35 for the fifth wicket with skipper Cameron White (24 off 30) and 31 with with Matthew Wade (18 not out) as Victoria eked out a respectable but hardly daunting target.

The Cobras cruised to victory with an over to spare after an early onslaught from Derek Brand (29 off 15 balls) put the Bushrangers bowlers on the back foot.

Peter Siddle (1-19) removed Andrew Puttick (4) with his first ball and Clinton McKay (0-26) ran out Brand with a direct hit in the fifth over.

However, Henry Davids (69 not out off 54) and JP Duminy (18 not out off 23) closed the door on Victoria with a perfectly paced unbroken stand of 88.
