Barcelona’s Bojan Krkic was born in Catalonia to a Serbian father and a Catalan mother. Bojan Krkic Snr was a journeyman footballer who came to Catalonia to play for lower league club Mollerussa

He would meet his wife while he was out with injury.

Mollerussa is a town of some 14,000, which is considerable growth from the time when its football club, CFJ Mollerussa, had its moment of glory.

Under the coaching of Carles Viladegut, who’s still involved in football today, the tiny club unexpectedly won promotion to the Segunda Division in 1988 after consecutive promotions.

The town’s population was little over 8,000 at the time, making it one of, if not the, smallest towns to ever host a club in the top two divisions of Spanish football.

Unfortunately for Mollerussa, it was a level too far.

The club won only three games and eleven points (when it was two points for a win) from 38 games.

But Mollerussa were one of numerous small-town clubs to have their day in the sun among the bigger guns of Spanish football.
