Adelaide’s senior players, who suspended three ill-disciplined AFL teammates, have been hailed for their courage by coach Neil Craig.

The Crows defeated Brisbane by 12 points on Sunday without the services of banned trio Graham Johncock, Matthew Jaensch and reigning club champion Bernie Vince.

According to Craig, the on-field result was Adelaide’s second win of the week.

“The events of the week are significant,” Craig said.

“The courage of our senior leadership group to stand up and be counted … it would have been very easy for the senior leadership group to turn a blind eye to that.

” (It was) not necessarily the line in the sand but the way the week panned out …. I just love the courage that they showed, and it’s amazing how it spills over to the ground as well.”

Craig accepted the leadership group’s recommendation that Vince, Johncock and rookie Jaensch be banned for one match for late nights out last weekend.

Craig said how the trio reacted to their punishment remained to be seen.

“Great lesson for them,” Craig said.

“I don’t really want to talk about those three players, I want to talk about the leadership group and the way we performed today.

“It will be their choice about decisions they make in terms of to challenge the standards of our footy club … and that is really what happened.

“I think it’s pretty clear what will happen in our club if you challenge it (standards).

“Now, it’s back to them.”

Vince and Johncock have yet to serve their suspensions due to injury, while Jaensch will be available for Adelaide’s away trip to face St Kilda next Saturday night.
