Craig Foster has been signing off the sports segment of the SBS World News with a bit of a speech throughout the cup. It is often provocative, but mainly thought-provoking. Last night’s was a classic.

The following is a transcript of Craig Foster’s conclusion at the end of the sports segment of last night’s SBS World News. I thought might precipitate some interesting responses from those for and those against Foster. He was building up to the World Cup final:

“This won’t just be a football match, it will be history in the making. Don’t miss it.

The massive worldwide audience of around a billion people who will come together to watch this final provides yet another valuable lesson for Australia.

Tomorrow, every newspaper, every television and radio bulletin on the planet will give complete priority to this match.

This is the World Cup of the World Game and nothing else comes close.

One day I want to see the Socceroos not only in the World Cup final, but lifting the trophy.

We can do it, and we will, but only with the united commitment from every Australian.

You’ve now witnessed the scale, the emotion, the challenges and together we can dare to dream the greatest dream of all.

The FIFA World Cup has often been described as the last frontier for Australian sport, but it’s not only the last, it’s the most important frontier of all.”
