Spain overtakes Brazil in FIFA rankings

World Cup winners Spain top the latest FIFA rankings, with runners-up Netherlands moving up to second. Australia remain in 20th spot.

The reigning world and European champions Spain overtook Brazil, who slipped to third in the table released on Wednesday.

Germany climb two places to fourth on the basis of their third-place showing in South Africa, ahead of Argentina and World Cup semi-finalists Uruguay.

England, Portugal, Egypt and Chile round out the top 10.

Chile rose eight places in the latest rankings, but the biggest jump was made by New Zealand. The All Whites climbed 24 spots to 54th.

The US gained a spot to 13th.

Italy, the 2006 World Cup winner, dropped out of the top 10 to 11th. France fell 12 places to 21st.
