The head says another Queensland win

Just like the storm clouds are bringing doom and gloom to some parts of New South Wales today, the Queensland origin team will be doing the same tonight. Don’t get me wrong, I have only been in Australia for 9 years but I will tell you that I am very proud New South Welshman.

But after years of predicting the outcome of the Origin series with my heart I am now using my brain.

The Maroons are smarter, hungrier and more talented than the Blues and that’s why they will win the series.

To make matters worse, this is Darren Lockyer’s last campaign. What more motivation do the Cane Toads need to send off a true champion of the game?

The only shinging light for the Blues is Queensland’s loss of their two international centres Inglis and Hodges. This gives me some hope that Gasnier and Jennings might have the upper hand out wide.

Ricky Stuart has really stuck his neck out with his selections. If it works out he will be considered a genius, but if it doesn’t, expect a few “NSW Origin legends” to be calling for his head.

Not having the most consistent Blues player over the last few years, Hayne, even on the bench is a big call.

To also not pick Idris and Learoyd-Lars could really backfire on Stuart. For the moment we should all give Ricky the benefit of doubt and trust he has picked the best side to beat the dominant Queensland side.

As much as I hate Queensland, one thing I will admit is that they have so much talent in their side and that should steer them to victory.

With Smith controlling the ruck, Thurston being the creator, Civoniceva being the battering ram, Lockyer the steady head and Slater using his pace to score outrageous tries, what hope is there for NSW?

The real killer is that the Queensland team is going to be awesome for a few more years to come.

So today I will predict the outcome of the game with my head and not my heart. I am sure if you’re from NSW, and did the same – no matter how much your heart dislikes it, you will tend to agree with me.

Prediction: QLD 22 – 14 NSW
