Three uncapped players have been included in Australia’s netball line-up for their world championship defence in Singapore in July.

Queensland Firebirds goal attack Chelsea Pitman and Adelaide Thunderbirds Erin Bell and Sharni Layton are the uncapped players in the 12-player squad.

Coach Norma Plummer said the trio impressed during the ANZ Championship and also at the four-day selection camp in Canberra.

“I’m excited about the potential of this team – we have the ability to throw some different combinations on court depending on our opposition,” Plummer said at the naming ceremony at the Prime Minister’s residence in Canberra.

Despite the three debutantes, the squad still boasts a combined 320 Test caps.

Sydney Swifts shooter Catherine Cox, 35, has been named vice-captain under Natalie von Bertouch, who took over the captaincy after injured Sharelle McMahon was ruled out.

Notable absentees are Vixens players Renae Hallinan, Bianca Chatfield and Madison Brown with Julie Corletto the only Melbourne player in the squad.

Firebirds defender Amy Steel was also omitted as were NSW Swifts players Rebecca Bulley and Susan Pratley.
