Bureaucratic rivalry on the beaches

I am personally ashamed of Surf Life Saving Australia’s dirty, underhanded approach to the real battle of government money, whilst they try to stamp out all competitors.

Trying to take ownership of the name “Lifeguard” to eliminate the opposition is a pretty low act and it doesn’t shock me as I’ve seen it all before.

Let it be known at a club level Surf Life Saving clubs do an good job for the Australian population on weekends.

Yet their commitment to local communities amounts to who’s running the show and how many good people are backing him or her.

I’ve had 25 years of dealing with surf clubs around Australia and each one has a different attitude and agenda.

Take Toowoon Bay on the Central Coast of NSW. They have a very community minded crew and will bend over backwards to accommodate something out of the ordinary.

Yet on the other hand Surf Life Saving Australia is so focused on creating battles with the rivals, that they have lost their way with why they exist.

I am the founder and national President of the Disabled Surfers Association of Australia Inc. and we are still waiting for email replies from Surf Life Saving Australia that go back years.

Not a good image for Australia or the so-called surfing industry as a whole.
