Having reached the heights of captaining an English Premier League club, Brett Emerton will revisit his humble beginnings when his new club Sydney FC take their A-League clash against Perth Glory to Campbelltown.

The A-League on Thursday announced the venues for the five Community Matches that will take the game to various areas of Australia and New Zealand where football fans have not had access to the A-League.

And the former Blackburn Rovers skipper, who grew up in Macquarie Fields, will be going back to where it began when the Sky Blues play their December match against the Glory at Campbelltown Stadium.

“Obviously I know the amount of interest in football in Campbelltown and the surrounding areas so to have the opportunity for those people to come out and see a game is great,” said Emerton, who spent his junior years playing for the Macarthur Rams.

“And for me it will be a little bit extra special playing in my home town.”

And while fans in Campbelltown will get to watch their home-town hero in action, those in Morwell, Bathurst, Dunedin, and Launceston will also get an A-League dose this season with a fixture each in those locations.

“It’s about reaching out to those 1.7 million people that touch our game but don’t always exist in major metropolitan areas,” Head of the A-League Lyall Gorman said.

“They’re regions that are starved of the opportunity to reach and touch our clubs and more importantly our elite players and it gives a great opportunity for aspirational footballers in those areas to come along and see their heros in action.”
