Buffoon Blatter ignites racism row

Sepp Blatter is the biggest clown in world sport. His body of work clearly surpasses that of any other and continues to drag FIFA deeper into irrelevance.

This figurehead of the already tainted sports body FIFA, has done it again, making another idiotic comment.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Blatter said he doesn’t believe football has a problem with racism. He said any problems can and should be dealt with on the pitch.

Really? Sometimes you have to wonder what planet Blatter lives on. Because it’s clearly not Earth.

Blatter doesn’t think racism in football isn’t a problem, but maybe he should ask Anton Ferdinand. Or Patrice Evra. Or Emile Heskey. Or Mario Balotelli.

Racism remains a burning issue in football. In Russia in June this year a banana was thrown on the field as Roberto Carlos was passing the ball.

Incidents of racism in football continue to occur around the world and the universal opinion, apart from Blatter, agrees that it needs to be stamped out at all levels.

Once again Blatter has shown that he is out of touch. We shouldn’t be surprised, this is the man who has said that women footballers should “wear tighter shorts and low cut shirts… to create a more female aesthetic” and attract more male fans.

He also has said: “FIFA cannot sit by and see greed rule the football world. Nor shall we.”

On corruption in FIFA: “There is no evidence…. So stop please to say FIFA is corrupt, FIFA is not corrupt … definitely not.”

Blatter must go. There is no reason for him to remain in FIFA’s top job. But getting him out seems easier than the Americans effectively ending their involvement in Afghanistan.

The only way I can see Blatter getting the axe is if FIFA’s main sponsors – the likes of McDonald’s, Castrol Adidas, Hyundai, Sony, Coke, Visa and other – demand that he goes. They have the power to force his exit.

Emirates is already reportedly considering whether it will pull its large sponsorship dollars out of FIFA. This is good, but odds are that if they do another airline will quickly sweep in and replace their haul of cash in FIFA’s coffers. We need all of FIFA’s partners to remain strong and work together to smoke Blatter out.

For FIFA and football to have any credibility, the Swiss Emperor must be sacked.
